Baseball is more than just a game; it’s a journey of passion, perseverance, and community. For Jordan Tiegs, who grew up right here in Woodstock, Ontario and played in the Woodstock Minor Ball Association (WMBA) programs from T-Ball through 15U, that journey has recently led to an incredible milestone: being named the Bullpen Coach for the Texas Rangers Major League Baseball team.
Jordan’s story began on the same fields that countless youth in our community play on every summer. As a young boy, he displayed not only exceptional talent but also an unparalleled work ethic and genuine respect for those around him. Although I was a couple years older than him, I had a few opportunities to be on the baseball diamond with Jordan and remember fondly our occasional walks home from school as we lived near each other. Even back then, his determination and polite demeanor were qualities that set him apart from many.
Playing in Woodstock was great, because you played all different positions. I wasn’t just a pitcher at a young age, so it helped me become an overall better player. Also, nothing beats getting to play with all your friends you go to school with.
Through WMBA’s programs, Jordan developed his foundational skills and love for the game. Like many young players, he dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player. While his path didn’t unfold exactly as he envisioned as a young boy, Jordan’s love for baseball never wavered. Instead, he channeled his passion into helping others achieve their goals, eventually becoming a coach and mentor. His journey is a testament to the power of resilience and adapting to challenges—reminding us all that there are many ways to make an impact in the game you love.
Today, as the Bullpen Coach for the Texas Rangers, Jordan plays a vital role in supporting and developing some of the best pitchers in the world. His success shines as a beacon of inspiration for youth in Woodstock and beyond, showing that with hard work and dedication, dreams can take you to incredible places.
There’s a lot I didn’t understand as a player that I now understand as a coach. The importance of a routine, how to utilize your coaches, and really paying attention to those who move and function like you. Not necessarily just the “best” players, because a lot are nothing like you.
WMBA has a long history, and we believe in fostering not only skilled players but also well-rounded individuals who carry lessons from the diamond into every aspect of their lives. Whether your child is just starting out in our house league or aspiring to compete in travel baseball, WMBA offers programs that ignite passion and build character. Jordan Tiegs’ story exemplifies what is possible when talent meets opportunity and support from a strong community.
Jordans remarkable journey thus far, from Woodstock to the big leagues is a proud moment for our baseball community. His story should remind us all to keep dreaming, stay resilient, and give back to the game that brings us together. Consider how you can contribute to the future of baseball in Woodstock. WMBA relies on dedicated volunteers, coaches, and supporters to provide meaningful experiences for our players. Whether you’re a former player, a parent, or someone looking to make a difference, your involvement could help shape the next generation of athletes and leaders.
Who knows?
The next major league success story might just be playing on a WMBA field this summer.
