What is Wranglers Select Baseball?
Select baseball is a competitive hybrid baseball program that provides the competitiveness of Rep with additional focus on playing opportunities and practice. It is a program endorsed and supported by both ICBA and Ontario Baseball.
The Woodstock Wrangler select teams play in the a select loop in ICBA that is affiliated with Baseball Ontario. The select season starts in May and runs through provincial championships held on Labour Day weekend.
How is Select baseball like Rep baseball?
Select teams are competitive Woodstock Wrangler teams - players must try-out for them and earn their spot as with Rep teams.
They wear the same uniforms as our Wranglers Rep teams and represent Woodstock and WMBA playing travel baseball.
Just like our Rep teams, Select teams:
- Hold regular team practices and winter workouts
- Play in a competitive travel league against other Select teams within ICBA
- Participate in tournaments
- Vie for OBA Championships
- Have dedicated coaches with the same core certifications as Rep coaches
- Players can be called up as Alternate Player's (AP’s) for Rep teams when needed
How is Select Baseball different than Rep or House League?
To further player development, Select players may also participate in House League, playing 2 extra games per week in addition to their Select team responsibilities.
This extra playing time is one part of how Select players can get even more playing opportunities and also allows them to bring what they learn to help elevate the competition for house league peers.
While house league games are played on weeknights, Select League games typically are played on weekends, reducing conflicts.
Select teams are typically made up of 2 age groups; Examples: The 9U Select team is made up of 8U and 9U players, the 11U Select team is made up of 10U and 11U
9U players will still use the pitching machine in House League, but will use the pitching wheel for Select.
11U will be using pitchers and pitch counting for all ages according to the OBA Select Loop rules.
