Girls-Only January Sessions:
Building Confidence, Choice, and a Love of the Game

Woodstock Minor Baseball Association (WMBA) is excited to introduce Girls-Only Skills & Play Sessions, running on Saturdays throughout January.

These sessions are more than just skill development. They represent an important step forward in our commitment to growing and retaining girls in sport here in Woodstock — by creating an environment where girls feel supported, encouraged, and empowered to explore the game on their own terms.

A Supportive Space to Learn, Try, and Belong

Each session will bring girls together as a group, allowing them to learn, move, and interact in a positive, inclusive, girls-only environment. The focus is on confidence, connection, and fun with an introduction to competition for those interested, without long-term commitment.

The sessions will be facilitated by leaders from the Woodstock Nationals girls fastball program, along with WMBA board members and volunteers who are passionate about creating welcoming entry points into sport.

Girls do not need prior experience. Whether they are:

  • Brand new to the game
  • Curious but unsure where to start
  • Looking to improve skills they already have

These sessions are designed to meet them where they are.

Sport-Neutral by Design: Baseball or Fastball — Your Choice

An important feature of this program is that it is sport-neutral.

Girls will be introduced to fundamental throwing, catching, hitting, and movement skills that apply to both baseball and fastball. As the sessions progress, they will also have opportunities to play, try, and explore how those skills translate into each sport.

There is no pressure to choose. No registration commitment beyond January. Just a chance to discover what they enjoy most.

January Session Breakdown

Each week we will offer a different experience, allowing the girls to choose the one(s) right for them to build skills and confidence:

The Basics
An introduction to fundamental skills: throwing, catching, hitting, and movement. Perfect for beginners or anyone looking to build confidence from the ground up.

Learn to Play
Using those basic skills in simple games and activities that introduce game concepts in a fun, supportive way.

Skill Focused Development (Hitting, Fielding)
Targeted instruction and drills focused on Hitting or Fielding
These sessions are ideal for girls who want to improve specific skills while continuing to train in a positive group setting.

Aligned With Our Strategy & Vision

These Girls-Only January Sessions directly support WMBA’s broader Strategy & Vision:

  • Increasing participation and retention of girls in sport
  • Removing barriers to entry
  • Creating positive first experiences that lead to long-term involvement
  • Building clear, welcoming pathways into both baseball and fastball programs

Programs like this help ensure that girls in Woodstock can see themselves in the game — not just as participants, but as teammates, leaders, and future role models.

Led by Role Models

Having the Woodstock Nationals girls fastball program involved is intentional. Seeing older athletes and leaders in action helps younger girls understand what’s possible — and reinforces that they belong in these spaces.

Their presence helps set a standard of excellence, confidence, and inclusivity that benefits every participant.
